The ROCCA

The ROCCA

Dedicated to all the shave enthusiasts.
Launched in 2016, the Rocca’s use of uncompromising materials and modern, sleek design has captured the hearts of both wet-shaving connoisseurs and novices alike. Made from marine-grade stainless steel and featuring a hybrid razor head design (somewhere between the familiar closed comb and more direct shave of an open comb) the range has a reassuringly heavy-weight, satin-like finish that feels as fantastic as it looks.
There have been a few improvements to the Rocca over the years, and as such, they remain the subject of some of our most frequently asked questions - how are they made and what materials are used?
From premise to materials and design updates, read on for the final word on the Rocca.
The Premise
Cool, elegant, and uncompromising: the Rocca series is a modern interpretation of traditional MÜHLE design. Named after the Italian word for castle or fort, ‘Rocca’ refers to the series’ heritage as well as the use of high-grade materials that will last a lifetime and beyond.

Unique to the series, Rocca razors feature a hybrid razor head design (somewhere between the familiar closed comb and closer shave of an open comb) making them a fantastic middle-ground for shaving. More direct than an R89, the Rocca still features the safety of the flat-edged bar to help keep the skin taut and guide the blade to ensure a smooth shave.

Truly pieces of investment, beyond the use of marine-grade stainless steel, all shaving brushes also feature brush heads which can be unscrewed and replaced whenever they are needed.

The Materials

Available in four finishes: Black, Jet Black, Pure Matt Stainless Steel and Birch Bark, there are several exceptional materials within the series that deserve a little attention!

Marine-grade 316L Stainless Steel: Durable and low maintenance, stainless steel is the core material of the Rocca series. Reassuringly heavy-weight, the collection features a satin-feel finish ensuring the brushes and razors feel as fantastic as they look.

PVD Coating: Featured on the Jet Black. Also known as thin-film coating, PVD is a process in which a solid material is vaporized in a vacuum and deposited onto the surface of a part. The process forms a thin, bonded, metal or metal-ceramic surface layer that improves durability as well as giving a clean, sleek finish.

Birch Bark: Made of elaborately layered birch bark, the material offers a fantastic non-slip grip and is just as water-resistant and durable as the other Rocca finishes. Beautifully textured, all Birch Bark handles provide a comfortable, warm hold.

The Bundles

Available in either Silvertip Badger or Silvertip Fibre®, Rocca shaving brushes feature our two most premium bundle types.

Silvertip Badger: The finest natural hair for handcrafted shaving brushes. Its special features are the shimmering silver colour and a black band running through the hair. It is used to make durable, high-quality unique shaving brushes. Known for its soft tips which are gentle on the skin and strong backbone which creates a fantastic massage effect and lifts the hair; bundles of this quality make the wet shave the best time-out imaginable. To ensure longevity, any brush with natural hair requires rinsing to remove soap residue and effective drying on a stand, see our short animation here for more details.

Silvertip Fibre®: A vegan alternative to the most luxurious natural brushes, this synthetic brush consists of seven different types of fibre, varying in thickness and length. This variation allows for a brush head that, without compromising on backbone, is uniquely soft and easy to manage. Processed by hand, Silvertip Fibre® was created to provide a completely vegan, lower maintenance product that would emulate all the benefits of the best natural brush heads. Drying quickly after use, you only need a small amount of shaving soap or cream to produce a rich and nourishing lather. Any shaving brush will benefit from a quick rinse and effective drying, however, synthetic brushes are much more resilient to soap residue and to being left damp as they dry quickly.

The Evolutions: Ever improving, ever perfecting.

Whilst the design and appearance of the Rocca series have remained consistent, there have been a few improvements to the processes used to manufacture the Rocca- in particular, the methods used to create the razor heads.

Improving and perfecting the razor, the latest version of the Rocca is now fully produced by CNC machining. An efficient and accurate method of production, the Rocca was re-designed with a narrow channel inside the top plate.

Elegant and extremely robust, shop the series now at MÜHLE USA.
